Annual Weeds

Annual Weeds

What are Annual Weeds?

Annual weeds which live only for one season and flood the soil with seeds just before they die.  Common Annual Weeds are Crabgrass, Black Medic, Oxalis, Purslane, and Spurge.

What can I do about Annual Weeds?

The best way to fight annual weed invasion is with prevention.  The trick to preventing annual weeds is to encourage a lush healthy lawn and to mow it as high as possible for most of the year.  Super (Slice) Seeding in the late summer is one way to thicken your lawn.  Adding Microclover to your lawn will also help crowd out annual weeds.  Feel free to ontact us with any questions.  You should also be careful not to water too often as frequent light watering will encourage annual weed seed germination.
